TRAVEL  INFORMATION

Vaccinations

You must be vaccinated against Yellow Fever in order to gain entry into Senegal. You must also be able to provide proof of vaccination (health booklet/record). It is also highly recommended to be up to date with the traditional vaccines: DT-polio, tuberculosis, hepatitis.

Medication

The principal drugs prescribed in Europe are on sale in the large city pharmacies, and the large villages. In the smaller villages, there are very often state dispensaries where you can get generic drugs such as nivaquine, antibiotics, vitamins, anti-fungal drugs, anti-diarrhea drugs, anti-spasmodic drugs, vaccines, etc...

Malaria

The anti-malaria treatment is strongly advised, particularly if you are traveling during the rainy season (the European summer), or if you plan to go outside the large cities.

Mosquitoes

The ideal, for the night, remains the mosquito net. The majority of "hostels" and hotels not equipped with air-conditioning have mosquito nets. The impregnated mosquito nets are on sale in Senegal. In case you forget, bear in mind that mosquitoes will bite you even through pajamas and that the least exposed piece of skin would be attacked. Repellents are efficient but generally leave a strong odour and sticky skin. The best night protection certainly remains the insecticidal serpentine which burns all night long. These are on sale in most shops in Senegal, at a low price.
